LAURA JEAN BELGRAVE • 2-24-52 - 7-19-2021

Laura was a USAF Vietnam-era veteran and one of the first females to fly in an F-4 fighter jet. She was the editor of the Stars and Stripes at RAF Mildenhall, and a reporter for the Stars and Stripes at Ramstein, Germany. After leaving the USAF, she authored five excellent novels, which we are proud to feature here. Laura is survived by her loving husband, John C. Caramanica Jr., her sisters, Linda Liska Belgrave and Leslie Curtis; two stepsons, Alan and Greg Caramanica; three grandchildren; her best friend, Marlene Passell; and many close friends involved in her writing career, especially Dawn Keur and Ray Hoy. She has donated her body to science. We are honored to have worked with Laura for the past 15 years. To us, she is not gone, she is just away. Godspeed, dear friend.

A dead psychic on Halloween night. Heroin filtering into the town's schools. A sullen ex-con with a beef of his own, and a legislator with secrets to protect. Not what homicide detective Claudia Hershey expected when she moved to Indian Run, a smudge on Florida's map. But there's no turning back when the killer makes things personal.

"Readers who enjoy a police procedural will find this a delightful read filled with action under every bush but almost totally void of gore. Author Laura Belgrave creates a cerebral storyline that provides clues along the way so that the fan can put the puzzle pieces together to try to solve this pleasing who-done-it."

What would you do if you were walking your dog and he snapped his leash and ran into a thorny, vacant field? What if you gave chase and tripped over something jutting from the ground — an old, faded box stuffed with more than $200,000? Get ready for a rollicking, humorous adventure with Funny Money, a comic mystery by the author of the bestselling book In the Spirit of Murder, part of the Claudia Hershey Mystery Series. Would you turn all that money over to the authorities? Would you keep it? And if you did, what would you do if just by chance a burglar stole it from you? And then a priest got involved, not to mention a smarmy private eye?

In 1984, Victoria had it all: A prestigious job, a large waterfront home, a daughter in college, and two professional friends she met weekly to share work concerns over wine and hors d'oeuvres. She was content. Then one late night a bedraggled young woman knocked on Victoria's door, a young woman who looked every bit an urchin. Her car had broken down and she wondered whether she could use Victoria's phone. Victoria reluctantly helped the woman/child, and sent her on her way. It was nothing, really.

But weeks later Victoria began to experience what she thought of as "brainteasers," unsettling tricks of the mind that increasingly occurred. She began to worry, even obsess: Mere distractions? Or worse, some kind of dementia, although she was only 42? Maybe even early onset Alzheimer's? Or could it be prompted by lies of omission? There were plenty in her life.

The stunning truth revealed itself one pitch-black, bone-chilling night in an unpredictable encounter no one could have anticipated — an encounter that would forever alter who Victoria thought she was.
